Review - NEW LeMieux Grafter Brushing Boots
For years now, LeMieux have been the manufacturers of some of the best mesh brushing boots on the market. I for one have been using the mesh boots ever since I can remember so when the HH team told me that I would be receiving a set of their new style of boots, I was very interested as to what differences they would have with the other style which I had never found any problems with myself.
As soon as I opened the package, it was evident what differences HH were going for. Rather than the whole boot being made from the usual mesh material, the body is a shoftshell type of material, not dissimilar from the Woof Wear brushing boots. The only difference between the Woof Wear boot and the LM one considering the body material is that the LM style is slightly thicker (making it more protective), much moreflexible and almost like memory foam so moulds to your horses’ legs.
However these boots incorporate the signature LeMieux strike pad on the inside of the boot, which is made of the same protective material as the cross country boots to ensure maximum protection. This is a quality which most other brands of brushing boots do not have, including the Woof Wear boots which only have a soft pad on the inside which is not shaped to the horses’ leg at all, offering minimal protection.
I’ve found that the Velcro is particularly strong compared to other brands, including Premier Equine and Woof Wear, and surprisingly it doesn’t seem to pick up too many bits of detritus, and if it does then so far it’s been easy to brush or wash out.
After riding in the rain and mud, they’ve been power hosed off 2-3 times and have been very easy to clean with nothing clinging to them, and then put in the washing machine with the fastest spin at 40 degrees and come out looking good as new.
Sizing wise they come up exactly the same as the mesh brushing boots, and are pretty average compared to other brands. On a 16.2 with short canon bones, medium fronts have fitted perfectly while for his hinds which are obviously much longer, I’ve used large.
Overall these boots are fabulous if your looking for a low cost but still breathable and highly protective boot that you won’t be worried about ruining at the extremely low cost of £19.96 compared to the Woof Wear boots which aren’t nearly as protective or well made at £22 and the LM mesh boots which are £32.50 and for me, will now be saved for smart training days and schooling whereas I can use the Grafter boots for hacking everyday. The Grafter boots are also perfectly paired with the LM Grafter work pads which are also perfect for everyday work at an affordable price. You can purchase these boots in Black, brown or from the new reflective collection (which I have reviewed on my Facebook page) from the Horse Health website here.
