Review - Kevin Bacon's Sea Clay

There's a lot of theories flying around about what is best for your horses legs post exercise, and lets face it, no one actually knows the answer. But the team at KB have put together a very specific clay which can be used after cross country, daily to help recovery from injury, after some fitness work or just because you want to. It's specifically designed to tighten tendons, increase definition, cool legs and to tone the tissue. This Sea Clay of Manicouagan combines 42 different atomic elements and contains interstitial sea water. It is rich in potassium, magnesium, sodium, iron and calcium which all aid recovery and are essential to a healthy horse. It is also completely safe for cuts and sensitive skin which is especially good for Rambo after cross country since somehow he always comes back with some sort of gash in his leg!

I've been using this clay since last year at competitions and after any strenuous work at home, so I've decided to do a full, in depth review of this amazing stuff because EVERYONE needs to know about it and use it!

When you open up your bag or pot (I used the 20kg pot) there's a layer of interstitial sea water (unlike a lot of other clays) which is great because it means that the clay isn't going to dry up once the pot has been opened, and I know from experience that months later it will still be exactly the same as when it's first used. It came out very cold which is one of the main things I look for in a good clay, the colder the better!

I then spread a layer of clay all over Rambo's tendons and down to his joints. In hindsight, i would have added more as there was only a very thin layer in the morning once it had dried so moral of this story would be to apply more than you think you need! It was super easy to put on, with barely any mess and washed straight off of my hands. It also stuck to his leg well and wasn't too slimy which was a bonus. Because I was just at home, I didn't bandage and just turned Rambo out with the clay exposed to elements. However, if i had been at a competition then I would have bandaged with paper over the clay and then washed it off the day after.

The next day I brought Rambo in and the clay was still as I had left it, but as I said earlier: I should have put a thicker layer on as it thins when dry. The clay was still cold on his legs as well so I can't see that there would be any heating up. I washed his legs with a power hose and I had to scrub a bit with my hands to make it fully come off but there was no particularly strenuous activity involved and no stains on the wash box later on! I then dried his legs off and left him in the stable to test the effects after an hour or so.

A little while later, I checked his legs (I left them so that I would be able to feel the actual temperature of his legs rather than the cold water) and I was pleased to find four nice cold legs with perfectly tight tendons, much better than they were after I finished working him the day before.

What sets this apart from other clay, is the essential ingredients that it contains. Most clays will only have one or two ingredients that they claim have a "boosting effect" but the KB sea clay has everything combined to make sure that your horse is only getting the best. With the success of the KB hoof dressing, which would be seen at the best hoof supplement that you can buy by the majority of people, its not a surprise that they would produce an equally astounding aid for the legs so that you have an all round happy horse.

So overall, this sea clay is a MUST HAVE for anyone with horses doing any type of work. Its efficient, proven to work and excellent value for money! One 20kg pot with feel like it lasts you a lifetime, and if your not sure whether this is right for you then you can test it out by buying the 2kg version which is very easy to from a specially designed bag.
