Review - ProShell Overreach Boots
Over the last few weeks i've been having some serious overreach boot problems. The day before Bicton, Custard pulled a shoe off and a rubber overreach boot with it, Rambo pulled off his nice expensive Dalmar overreach boots in the showjumping at Oasby and ended up with a nice cut along with it. So we've been on the hunt for another style to try that aren't flimsy like the rubber ones and able to be ripped off easily, but at the same, won't jar a horses leg if their trodden off and leave a burn. There's been lots of questions flying around about overreach boots in the last few weeks with the event season kicking in, and I think that i may have found the answer for everyone's needs!
First Impression: Well made and very flexible. At first glance, they look like they wouldn't be able to be pulled off very easily, if at all and the outer material looked extremely easily to clean which is a bonus!
Sizing: They come up about the same as the ballistic style, maybe a little bigger. They are definitely bigger than the soft shell and ringers styles so for these if I was to buy again, I may have gone for small rather than medium, which would be the opposite for the other styles.
Features: The outer material is made of a very robust material that deflects impact and means that the hoof cannot get a grip in order to pull the boot off, but at the same time would not be able to trip up. The inner material is a soft neoprene lining, as is the collar, which means no rubs and easy washing! Both materials are easy to wipe or hose mud off of which means that they would be perfect for both everyday and competition use.
Use: I've been using these overreach boots daily for both competition and home use when hacking out, schooling and jumping. I used them at Aldon, Portman and Weston Park eventing wise in both the showjumping and cross country, and I am pleased to say that they barely have a mark on them, with no signs of even nearly being pulled off at all. There have been no rubs on the skin at all, and even when the boots occasionally spin round, there is still protective material underneath the velcro so it isn't a problem. The only slight problem could be that after 3 weeks, the neoprene rim around the bottom has started to wear away slightly, and although it doesn't hinder anything or show when in use, some people might find that a downside so some improvements could be made here!
Other than that, I haven't been able to find a single other problem with these fabulous new overreach boots! They're sturdy yet comfortable and this innovative new design means no more rips at all! Washing wise, they've held out perfectly and have only had to be trough the washing machine once after going through the mud at Aldon. For all of the other times they have been used, i've simply given them a quick wipe off which has been more than enough.
Overall I have been very impressed with this design, and with the vast range of colours, there's something for everyone! These have to be one of my favourite products int he new LeMeux collection so go and grab yours here.
