Review - LeMieux Hippo Brush
Reviewing the LeMieux hippo brush! I've really put this brush through its paces in the last few weeks, testing with mud, sweat and washing off!
First Impression: Very gentle looking - very good for sensitive skin. Not a lot to look a really, if I didn't know better, then I might really wonder whether it would actually anything!
Features: A curve shape which makes for a good hand hold. Also grippy spots on the back of the brush which really helps when it's cold and your hands are frozen! Long rubber bristles to get deep into the coat - especially good for custard who hadn't been clipped!
Use with mud:
I've tried the hippo brush with two ponies caked in mud, one with a short fuzzy coat and one with a long, unclipped coat. I found that the mud came off best with a short coat, there was no need for another brush! It didn't work so well with the long coat because of how deep the mud was in the fur! It was also very effective in removing the grease from both coats, which I could definitely tell as the rubber bristles came up white when I took it off the coat!
Use with sweat:
Again, I tried this brush with both types of coat. I found that the sweat came off very easily with short hair, and left no marks whatsoever. I was also pleseantly surprised that on a long coat, the hippo brush worked very well with removing sweat and I was very happy to turn straight out after work when using this brush afterwards since it removed everything very effectively. This makes it absolutely perfect for winter when you want to turn out as quickly as possible, and to avoid using cold water and getting both you and your equine freezing!
Use with water:
Before custard was finally clipped, we gave him a big bath using the hippo brush. It really got deep into the coat, ensuring the best wash possible. I especially love the fact that unlike with a sponge, it doesn't need to be completely rinsed out when switching from a wash to a rinse.
Overall:The perfect brush for all needs during the winter, keeping hands and horses as warm as
possible! It is an extremely effective tool and a must have for any grooming kit. Works particularly well on a short or clipped coat so would be great for summer months as well, which means that I am very excited to try it out during the event season!
