Review - Le Mieux Teal Saddlepad and Mesh Brushing Boots

First Impression:

Saddlepad is very soft, well made and a lovely, striking colour. Boots have lots of protection and match saddlepad perfectly.

Sizing:

I used a full size saddlepad on both ponies, who are 14.1h and 14.2h. The fit was great, I prefer it to the small/medium pads on the ponies but some people prefer I tighter fit.

I decided on small front and medium hinds, again to fit both. I was a little worried that the fronts would be too small for Rambo as he has quite chunky legs, but they were very

versatile and fitted perfectly, also on custards smaller legs.

Features:

The bamboo soft lining provides a lovely feel, and a maximum sensitivity rating. It's extremely light and quite thin, I would be tempted to put a half pad underneath.

The boots are made of a mesh material, providing maximum breathability, and ensuring that the legs are as cool as possible while working. A strike pad on the inside provides protection from strikes and also helps to know where to place the boots on your horses legs.

Use during work:

The saddlepad was certainly put through its paces in two hour long dressage lessons. After coming off custard who I rode first, and who is unclipped at the moment, I brushed it off quickly with the Horse Health Hippo Brush and I was very pleased to see that after a few minutes it was barely wet at all. There was no slipping at all, and it molded to both ponies shapes well. I especially love the cut back "V" shape over the wither, as it really took the pressure off and provided maximum comfort and the best fit possible.

The boots were also used on both ponies, during dressage and jumping. They went on nicely, and didn't move at all from where I had put them. These also molded well to both leg shapes and the mesh/breathable material meant that both the heat during work and cooling time was minimised. The sand that had gotten onto the boots from the school was no where near the actual leg, so couldn't rub at all, and was easily brushed off, also with the Horse Health Hippo Brush which will be reviewed shortly.

After use:

Both items were barely dirty or sweaty after two uses so I simply hung everything up and left it to dry for a few hours, which it successfully did. All the stitching was still completely in tact and I wouldn't hesitate to take the boots out hacking since they are sturdy and easy to wash.

Improvements that could be made:

Nothing to say for the saddlepad, but the coloured part of the boots could be lengthened slightly or moved more to the inside so that it doesn't disappear so much round the back when they are tightened.

Overall:

Great products, well made and simple to use. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again, especially if there were more colours!
